What we handle for Wallasey, Liscard and New Brighton

Whether your income arrives steadily through the year or mostly in the summer, the work is the same: accurate figures, filed in good time.

Built around a short season

Some businesses here earn steadily through the year and others earn most of it in five months, and the two want handling differently. For a seasonal business we put the year-end work into the winter, when there is time to go through it properly, and keep the bookkeeping moving through the season so VAT and payroll never wait for a quiet week. For someone employed who also files a return, we ask for records once and deal with it in one go.

How it works

Getting started

1

Book a free call

Tell us what you run or let in Wallasey, Liscard or New Brighton, when your season starts and ends, and what is going wrong or coming up. The call costs nothing, and nothing follows from it unless you decide it should.

2

Agree a fixed fee

A one-off return is quoted at a fixed price; a company with payroll and VAT is quoted at a fixed monthly fee. Either way the scope and the figure go in writing before any work starts, so a summer business knows its accountancy cost before the season opens rather than after it has closed.

3

Change over in the quiet months

Changing accountants is our work rather than yours, and for a seasonal business the winter is the time to do it. The professional clearance, the HMRC authorisations and the software all go through while trade is slow, so the first thing you notice in the spring is that the books are already up to date.

FAQ

Questions we are asked

Can I meet you in person?
Yes, by arrangement, at Second Floor, 61 Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. Getting there is easier than people expect: the New Brighton line runs into Hamilton Square with no change of train, twelve minutes from Wallasey Village, fourteen from Wallasey Grove Road and eighteen from New Brighton, with frequent services through the day. Most clients come in once, usually to go through a set of accounts, and work with us online after that.
How do I get to you from Liscard, and where do I park?
Liscard has no station. The 410 runs frequently through the day from Liscard Village through Poulton to the stop outside Hamilton Square station, a journey of about twenty-five minutes. The train is quicker if you can reach a station: the car park at Wallasey Grove Road has 168 spaces, six of them Blue Badge bays, and the train from there takes fourteen minutes. Parking at our end is on-street pay and display, so leaving the car at a station is often the simpler half of the trip.
I am employed in Liverpool and have a small business on the side. Must I file a tax return?
If your gross trading income is more than £1,000 in a tax year, yes, and you must register by 5 October after the end of that year. Two things catch people out. The first is that tax on side income is not deducted as you earn it, so it arrives as a single payment the following January, often with payments on account on top. The second is that a let property counts as well, with its own separate £1,000 allowance and, where the property is jointly owned, only your share. We prepare the return early in the year so the January figure is known in good time.
I take staff on for the summer only. What do I have to do about pensions?
The Pensions Regulator requires seasonal and temporary staff to be assessed individually every time they are paid, including anyone who works only a few days or weeks, because their hours and earnings move. Someone aged between 22 and State Pension age who earns over £192 a week, or £833 a month, must be put into a workplace pension that you pay into. Where staff will work for less than three months you may postpone that decision, but you must still write to each of them within six weeks of the postponement starting. We run the assessment alongside the payroll and keep the records that go with it.
