The work we take on in and around Birkenhead

All of it is handled from the office here, so you can send your records online or bring them in.

Why clients come to Hamilton Square

Our office is in the town centre rather than on a business park, a minute from the station. Questions about your figures are answered by the people who prepared them, rather than passed down a chain, and there is no call centre between you and the work.

How it works

Getting started

1

Start with a call

Tell us what you run or let and where the difficulty is: a company year end that has crept up, a licence fee you are unsure how to treat, a return you have not started. The call is free, and having it signs you up to nothing.

2

Agree the fee in writing

You get the price before any work begins: a fixed fee for a single job such as one tax return, or a fixed monthly fee where a company, its payroll and its VAT all need keeping up. Nothing is billed by the hour, so a question in April is no more expensive than one in January.

3

Moving your records across

Because the office is in the town, a Birkenhead handover can happen across a desk: bring the files in and we will sort out what is usable. Either way we write to your present accountant for clearance, arrange the HMRC authorisations and set up Xero and Hubdoc, then work to each filing date and come back to you when something needs deciding.

FAQ

Questions we are asked

Where can I park on Hamilton Square?
Hamilton Square and Hamilton Street are both inside Wirral Council's controlled parking zone in central Birkenhead, so the bays are pay and display. The machines take card, phone or the JustPark app and do not accept cash, and the current tariffs are on Wirral Council's website. The council's town-centre car parks are charged separately, and several of them have marked Blue Badge bays. The station itself has no car park.
Which station and bus stop are nearest, and can I call in?
Birkenhead Hamilton Square station is on the Hamilton Street corner of the square. It is staffed, with lifts and step-free access to every platform, and every branch of the Merseyrail Wirral line runs through it, New Brighton, West Kirby, Chester and Ellesmere Port alike, so most of the peninsula reaches us without a change of train. Buses stop outside the station, on Argyle Street and at the Hamilton Square Interchange on Bridge Street, with Birkenhead bus station a few minutes' walk further. You are welcome to call in by arrangement: bring your last accounts or tax return and your HMRC references.
What will it cost?
The first call costs nothing. After it you get a written price: a fixed fee for a single piece of work, or a fixed monthly fee where a company, its payroll and its VAT all have to be kept running. The fee covers the questions that come with the work, so there is no meter running when you ring.
I already have an accountant. How hard is it to move?
Not hard, and you do not have to handle the conversation yourself. We write to them for professional clearance, ask for your records and last accounts, arrange the HMRC authorisations and set the software up. Most people move after a year end, but there is no need to wait for one.
Do you act for landlords in the selective licensing areas?
Yes. Wirral's designations cover parts of Birkenhead and the areas next to it, Birkenhead West and Bidston and St James West among them, and across towards Egremont and Seacombe, with a further designation running to 2030. Licence fees vary and should be checked with the council, and because a designation lasts about five years, whether a fee is relieved against one year's rents or spread across the licence period depends on the licence in front of us. It is worth asking before the accounts are drawn up rather than after.
